...and then he let go of the wall and took his first steps

Well Kaleb took his first steps yesterday at exactly 51 weeks old. We both saw it and our jaws must of been on the floor, we were simply amazed. It is such an wonderful thing to see this little guy walk. I mean 51 weeks ago he was so helpless and couldn't even hold his own head and now he has the balance, coordination and most importantly the confidence to walk on his own.

He is still very unsteady standing without holding on to anything so we don't see him really starting to walk for a little while yet. However he has made huge leaps in the last 3 weeks that maybe he will surprise us again.

Today was a fun day, me and Kaleb went swimming in the morning and tobogganing in the afternoon, we went down the bunny hill on a crazy carpet and he seemed indifferent.

Kaleb is cruising and more!

Lots has happened so fast here. Starting on November 1st when we first saw the house where we are moving in the new year, then Kaleb went from crawling to sitting and only a few short days later he started pulling up on furniture to stand. Now 3 weeks later, he can crawl then entire flight of stairs and he cruises from couch to end table to desk quite confidently. Here is a video of his contagious laughter HERE and a video of him tackling the stairs HERE. We are also getting close to his birthday which is a huge milestone in all our lives, stay tuned for the year one video. A plus tard!

Open and Close

A little update on things around here. Stacey has started school a couple weeks ago. She is working on her masters of nursing on a part time basis, taking one course per semester. This time around its philosophy. Being her layman proof reader let me tell you that I don't understand one bit of what they are talking about. She is catching on and spending lots of her spare time (what little she has) on reading and writing papers/workbook.

Sky is doing great, she came back to us a few weeks ago after having her litter of 7 puppies over the summer. She is slowly regaining back her bad habits but she does provide hours of entertainment to Kaleb. She can't really nap all day like she used too, she has to keep one eye open and move from one end of the room to the next depending on the little guys interest level.

Kaleb of course is doing great, he is scooting around and just wants to chew on different things, mostly the dogs stuff. He has one tooth (top left) with a second (top right) coming out any day now. He is so drooly, he leaves a trail of slime all around the house. Sort of like a quick snail. We started giving him an evening snack just before bed and we were astonished by how much he ate. This has led us to increase his 'sleeping thrue the night" statistics. He went from about 2 nights a week to 3 nights a week so far. We all went to a 1st year birthday party for one of Kaleb's pre birth friends (we met at a birthing class) on Friday and its just amazing how a year has gone by. Kaleb laughs a lot, people just love to hear his laugh, its contagious. Last night we all went for a bike ride around the neighborhood, it was his first time in the chariot being pulled by a bike, he like it, he just watched the world zip by.

As for me, its sort of work work. I get out biking a couple times a week and Kaleb keeps me smilling. Me and Kaleb take swimming once a week, that's fun. Oh and we are currently looking at moving to a house.
As mentioned last week, he loves to open and close doors. Check out our new MOVIE to see what I mean.

Scooty McScooterson

A quick hello and a new little movie to show the scooting method used. Notice the one leg/knee action, he's going to have forearms the size of grapefruits pretty soon. We have installed the baby gate at the top of the stairs because he is just so quick now. His new hobby is closing doors, he loves it. I put him down in the middle of his room, go to the washroom and in 5 seconds I hear the door to his room close, hopefully he doesn't lock himself in a room.

Moving around

We are hiking a lot with Kaleb lately and we took this movie a few months ago of us coming down from our first real hike, he just fell asleep for the entire hike down. HIKING MOVIE.

Over the last few days, he has been making huge leaps by moving on his own. First he sorta spun around on his tummy and realized that he was able to direct himself in the direction of his choice. Then yesterday, he started following the trail of cheerio's, he's not crawling or moving fast but he sort of has that determined look to him. Today, he actually started using his feet to push himself forward, much better waving his feet in the air like he is doing in this CRAWLING MOVIE.

Backward progression

I went to New Brunswick for Dan and Janelle's wedding last weekend, since it was a quick trip there and back Kaleb and Stacey stayed home. On Sunday I got a text from Stacey saying he crawled 6 feet. It was 6 feet backwards but 6 feet none the less. Here are some new pictures from the last few weeks.

Trip to Moncton

We just got back from a fantastic vacation in New Brunswick to visit Mathieu's family. We saw so many family and friends and even if it was for short periods of time, it was a real treat to see everyone. Our home base was in a beautiful cottage in Shediac that was graciously lend by Mathieu's godparents Dollard and Noreen. Thanks so much for the accomadations. It was really great to have our own place a few steps from the beach. The backyard is like a little slice of paradise with a nice garden, covered deck and a nice firepit. Mathieu found his ass parked in a rocking chair on the deck for hours on end reading and just relaxing. Kaleb was all smiles and laughed tons as he met new people. Stacey was in heaven as we were able to drop off Kaleb at Pepere and Memere and take a leasurily walk on the beach with her husband. The flight there and back went as smooth as one can expect with a 6 month old in tow. Kaleb is a pretty decent traveller.

Take care and check out the photos.

New tricks

Spring is here, Kaleb is now over 4 months. He is pulling tricks quicker than you can blink. Just yesterday Stacey caught him rolling over and now today I show up from work and he is snuggled in Stacey's arm and holding his own bottle. He is holding his head nicely and just loves to stand and be in the water.
Getting around with him is becoming easier. He falls asleep quietly in his car seat which is better than before. We just bought a kid carrier. He is still too young for it but we will be ready this summer. Keep an eye out for some video of him that we will upload next week. Bye for now.

March 2010- Kaleb is 3 months old!

Hello! This is Kaleb coming to you live from the great townhomes of Tuscany! I am now 3 months old, and have some new pictures on our website for you to check out! http://picasaweb.google.com/Bourgeois.Mathieu/Week1402 I can now hold me head up, entertain myself with some toys, and shove anything including my whole fist into my mouth. I am a pretty happy guy, and my parents are starting to take me out to restaurants and fun stuff like that. I love my puppy, and going to the mountains for hikes. Mom takes me out in the Chariot almost every day, and they say that spring is coming, because it gets so warm in there. I hear there is a photographer coming to take pictures of me this weekend, I must be pretty good looking! What do you think?

February Update

Hello ,

We have been busy in the last few weeks. With Kaleb now on a more predictable schedule, we now have the courage and confidence to do different activities. Kaleb went skiing last weekend and for a jog with papa. The weekend previous we all went to Grotto Canyon and hiked to the frozen waterfalls. This weekend he and mom went to a trade fair and then went for lunch with friends. Its been wonderful to watch him grow and develop in the last two weeks. He now grabs stuff, he smiles a lot, sucks on his hands and holds his head very well.

As usual there is photos on our Picassa web site.

Life of babies - The magical number 6.

We went to our weekly doctors appointment on Friday (his 6th week birthday) and we had the usual questions regarding food, crying and gas. All books and classes point to a simple fact, babies change drastically at the 6th week of life. We read about this and yet we had a hard time believing that the crying would stop and be replaced with laughter.

A week went by and we were downtown at the weekly doctors visit and as we were leaving Stacey made a bold suggestion. `Lets go for Vietnamese food`. I was shocked she even suggested this. I mean Kaleb usually starts fussing every 10 minutes and it takes a good 20 minutes of bouncing and rocking to sooth him. We`ll lets give it a try. We drove 2 blocks and found our favorite noodle house Pho Kim. We went in, left our jackets on (we might have to leave in a hurry we thought) and ordered. We asked the waiter if we could have Take out dishes at the ready in case we had to leave. We ate, he quietly watched us and then to our amazement he stayed quiet throughout the whole meal. Stacey paid, I packed him up and we left. As we drove away, we high fived each other and couldn`t believe we pulled it of. Life has taken a turn for the best. Some photos from this past week HERE.
Here is the proof we went out.
